Aim

The aim of the Westfields Sports Australian Football Program is to provide a football development program, which teaches our students the skills and strategies of the game.

Courses Offered

Year 7/8 Sport Enrichment focuses on skill learning and development as well as basic game strategies.

Year 9/10 Applied Sport Studies is an elective subject chosen for study over two years as a component for the Year 10 Record of Student Achievement. It will continue the process of skill development with more emphasis on the building of team structures.

Course Structure

All students are offered two double period sessions per week. Students in Years 9-12 are expected to undertake one strength & conditioning session per week.

Course Structure

Students in Years 7/8 are given formal coaching for two periods per week and a strength and conditioning session for two periods per week as part of their school timetable. Students in 9/10 Applied Sport Studies receive formal training for two periods per week and two periods of theory including instruction in rules, training, and coaching. Students in Years 11/12 have one compulsory formal training session per week.

Aim

Aim

The aim of the Westfields Sports Basketball Program is to provide a basketball development program, which teaches our students the skills and strategies of the game.

Courses Offered

Year 7/8 Sport Enrichment is primarily concerned with skill learning and development. Students in this course spend a considerable part of their training in repetition of the individual and small group fundamentals. Students are also engaged in speed work, skills assessment, and physical testing.

Year 9/10 Applied Sports Studies is an elective subject chosen for study over two years as a component for the Year 10 Record of Student Achievement. It continues the process of skill development and places more emphasis on the building of team structures. Strength training and psychology enter the curriculum and speed work is increased to a further dimension.

Course Structure

Year 7/8 have three double period sessions per week concentrating on court work. Year 9/10 is offered for two double period sessions per week. Strength and Conditioning becomes an additional part of the program, and some students will be required to attend an additional court session. Year 11/12 are required to attend up to four sessions per week, depending on the phase of year.

Aim

The Westfields Sports Cricket Program offers both theoretical and practical components designed to enrich the students' knowledge of cricket and enhance skill performance.

Courses Offered

Year 7/8 Sport Enrichment is an introduction to the program and is designed to enhance the identified playing talents of junior students and further develop their skills and enjoyment in the game.

Year 9/10 Applied Sport Studies is an elective subject chosen for study over two years as a component for the Year 10 Record of Student Achievement. This course offers a more advanced content with more emphasis being placed on theoretical components to be accredited for the Year 10 Record of Student Achievement.

Course Structure

All courses consist of two double period sessions per week during the school year. Practical activities are based on development of skills in all aspects of batting, bowling, fielding, wicket keeping and game tactics. Theoretical activities include exercise and fitness, psychology, principles of training, laws of cricket, injury prevention, nutrition, history of cricket, leadership, and coach education.

Aim

Dance is coordinated by the CAPA Faculty. The aim is to train dancers in contemporary, jazz and tap. High order accomplishment of skills and technique of these styles provides the basis for elective dance in the Year 10 Record of Student Achievement and Higher Year 10 Record of Student Achievement courses.

Courses Offered

Year 7/8 Sport Enrichment students are expected to be at dance class on time and with the correct dance attire (navy blue sleeveless leotard, black dance pants, 3/4 black tights and black jazz shoes or boots for all practical dance lessons.

Year 9/10 Dance is an elective subject studied over two years as a component of the Year 10 Record of Student Achievement. Dancers will be studying both the theoretical components (appreciation) and continuing the learning of dance styles (performance).

Year 11/12 Dance is studied over two years as a 2U Higher School Certificate subject. Dancers will continue to study performance and appreciation and will have composition added to their studies. The practical component is worth 60% of the Higher School Certificate.

Course Structure

Year 7/8 Sport Enrichment participate in two practical sessions of dance per week. Year 9/10 Dance have one double period technique session per week and one double period of appreciation / composition on a rotation basis. Year 11/12 Dance participate in three double period lessons per week.

Dance students are expected to be part of Dance Company or Dance Ensemble Group. These are multi-year groups, which train one afternoon per week. Students are expected to be available and in attendance at these training times.

Aim

The Westfields Sports Football Program prepares players for representative selection as part of a statewide development program, dovetailing into a National Talent Identification Program. We aim to provide a pathway towards a career in football.

Courses Offered / Structure

Primary Program includes skill development, basic game strategies, co-ordination and running skills and physical testing and analysis. This group trains 3 sessions per week.

Aim

The main aim of the Hockey Program at Westfields Sports is to provide a safe and enjoyable environment for our athletes so that they may improve their individual skills in hockey as well as developing an awareness of belonging to a team. The program provides opportunity for students to develop knowledge, not only in hockey, but in areas which will affect a person's general health and lifestyle.

Year 7/8 Sport Enrichment is an introduction to the program including practical and theoretical components based on the principles of hockey.

Year 9/10 Applied Sport Studies is an elective subject chosen for study over two years as a component for the Year 10 Record of Student Achievement. In this course there is a greater emphasis on advanced skills and systems. The theoretical component includes units on psychology, nutrition, hockey specific training principles, sport injuries as well as completing video analysis.

Aim

The aim of the Talented Netball Program is to provide an opportunity for talented students to train, compete and gain knowledge and experience in the game of netball.  It is designed to produce the highest quality of team and individual performances.

Courses Offered

Year 7/8 Sport Enrichment is an introduction to the program where basic skills will be enhanced and the techniques to perform these skills will be studied.

Year 9/10 Physical Activity & Applied Sport Studies is an elective subject chosen for study over two years as a component for the Year 10 Record of Student Achievement. Students will look to begin the development of more advanced skills and specific court strategies will begin to be implemented. This course also involves theoretical aspects of netball including coaching, umpiring, media skills and aspects of elite performance including the plotting of player pathways.

Course Structure

All squads will be given all the consideration of talented sports persons and will concentrate on fitness, skill development and teamwork. Year 7/8 Sport Enrichment and Year 9/10 Applied Sport Studies will operate two double periods per week. Year 11/12 will operate on one afternoon per week and members will also be required to attend at least one strength and conditioning session per week.

The aim of the course is to bring together talented students in an environment which will promote the development of these students in Rugby Union. It allows the boys to enhance their own performance and gives them an understanding of the laws, tactics and physical requirements within the game.

The aim of the talented Rugby League program at Westfields Sports is to provide a positive and enjoyable environment in which all participants are given the opportunity to advance their skill levels and consequent playing ability.

Courses Offered

Year 7/8 Sport Enrichment is an introduction to the program. Identification of strengths and weaknesses takes place so that basic skills and physical development can be targeted at the individual and the group.

Year 9/10 Applied Sport Studies is an elective subject accredited for the Year 10 Record of Student Achievement.

Course Structure

All students will be offered at least three sessions per week. The timetable has been structured to allow Years 10, 11 and 12 Rugby League students to work together as a combined group if necessary.

Aim

The Softball Program aims to select athletes with potential and develop them through to elite status. At the completion of the program students will have obtained their Level 1 Coaching Certificate, Umpiring and Scoring through the National Coaching Accreditation Scheme.

Year 7/8 Sport Enrichment is an introduction to the program and development of basic skills.

Year 9/10 Applied Sport Studies is an elective subject chosen for study over two years as a component for the Year 10 Record of Student Achievement. It further enhances skills and prepares students for the State Selection Process.

All courses offered cover the following areas: basic skills, fitness testing, strength and conditioning, technique analysis, rules and scoring, umpiring, coaching, injury prevention, nutrition, drugs in sport, anatomy, and psychology.

Course Structure

Westfields Sports Softball Program is conducted in association with the NSW Softball Association. Students have two double period sessions per week. A pitching / catching session is available for junior students for an additional cost.

Students are required to play for a team registered with the NSW Softball Association and are expected to have their own softball equipment (glove, bat and softball). This equipment is required for each training session.

Aim

Westfields Sports provides a supportive environment for swimmers to combine their training commitments and competition schedules in partnership with their educational pursuits through its flexible timetable.

Courses Offered

Swimmers are coached by their preferred professional coach, with Tara Thode overseeing their overall development. The school is also able to give swimmers support by providing strength and conditioning training as well as the use of sport science facilities. Coaches of swimmers can consult with Tony Wignell who will supervise this training in accordance with the directions supplied by the coach.

In Year 9/10 Applied Sport Studies swimmers are given the opportunity to have swimming as one of their electives for the Year 10 Record of Student Achievement.

Course Structure

A compulsory training session for all swimmers has been organised on Wednesday mornings commencing at 7:30am.

The tennis program at Westfields Sports allows athletes to continue their academic pursuits while building a career in tennis, either through competitive or tournament play, coaching or administration.

Course Structure

The program is a joint venture between Westfields Sports and Tennis NSW. All students participate in two double period sessions per week in small group situations to gain maximum benefit from the coach. Sessions groups are determined by student ability and the timetable. Communication between private coaches and school coach is encouraged. Strength and Conditioning sessions for individual athletes can be organised through private coaches and / or school coach.
